FreeScan UE Pro2 — Wireless Metrology Without Limits
The FreeScan UE Pro2 is SHINING 3D’s next-generation wireless metrology 3D scanner, designed for high-accuracy engineering and portable inspection workflows. Combining wireless operation, ultra-fast scanning performance, and photogrammetry-assisted accuracy, the UE Pro2 is engineered for demanding industrial environments where portability and precision are equally critical.
Built for inspection, reverse engineering, manufacturing, heavy industry, automotive, and large-scale measurement applications, the FreeScan UE Pro2 delivers metrology-grade performance in a lightweight handheld platform.
Wireless Industrial Scanning
One of the defining features of the FreeScan UE Pro2 is its fully wireless architecture. The scanner integrates a wireless data transmission module and embedded computing hardware directly into the device, eliminating the need for tethered scanning workflows, only requiring connection to a pocketable battery for its power.
Weighing approximately 950 grams, the system is optimized for mobile operation across shop floors, field environments, production facilities, and outdoor scanning applications. Its lightweight handheld design improves maneuverability during long scanning sessions while reducing cable restrictions commonly associated with traditional metrology systems.
High-Speed Laser Scanning Performance
The FreeScan UE Pro2 is designed for high-efficiency data acquisition with scanning speeds up to 3,460,000 points per second. Combined with a high frame rate of up to 180 FPS and 50 laser lines in high-speed mode, the system significantly improves scanning efficiency for large or complex parts.
The scanner supports three dedicated scanning modes designed for different applications and geometry types. High-speed mode utilizes 50 laser lines for rapid large-area scanning, while detailed scanning mode uses 7 parallel laser lines for finer feature capture. A dedicated single-line mode is optimized for deep pockets, recessed features, and difficult-to-access geometry commonly found in industrial components.
This multi-mode laser configuration allows the UE Pro2 to adapt efficiently between large-scale scanning and high-detail inspection workflows without requiring separate systems.
Metrology-Grade Accuracy
The FreeScan UE Pro2 is engineered specifically for professional metrology applications requiring reliable measurement accuracy and repeatability. The system delivers accuracy up to 0.02 mm and volumetric accuracy up to 0.02 mm + 0.015 mm/m when used with photogrammetry workflows.
The scanner is verified according to VDI/VDE 2634 Part 3 and ISO 10360 standards, supporting traceable industrial inspection and quality control applications. SHINING 3D’s ISO/IEC 17025 accredited accuracy laboratory provides calibration and validation for the system’s metrology performance.
Video Photogrammetry (VPG)
The FreeScan UE Pro2 incorporates SHINING 3D’s patented Video Photogrammetry technology, designed to improve volumetric accuracy during large-object scanning while simplifying setup requirements.
Unlike traditional photogrammetry workflows that rely heavily on coded markers, the VPG system streamlines the preparation process while maintaining stable global accuracy across large scanning volumes. This is especially beneficial for large industrial components, vehicles, heavy machinery, pipelines, castings, and structural inspection workflows where traditional setup methods can become time-consuming.
Built for Industrial Environments
The FreeScan UE Pro2 is designed for operation across both indoor and outdoor environments, including manufacturing facilities, shipyards, energy infrastructure, heavy equipment maintenance, and field inspection applications.
Its laser-based scanning system provides strong material adaptability for scanning dark, reflective, and metallic surfaces commonly encountered in industrial workflows. The system is intended for applications including:
- Industrial inspection
- Reverse engineering
- Automotive manufacturing
- Energy and utility infrastructure
- Heavy machinery maintenance
- Aerospace and transportation
- Sheet metal inspection
- Surface deformation analysis
The scanner’s portability and wireless operation allow operators to move freely around large components and complex workspaces without tether limitations.
Integrated Inspection Workflow
The FreeScan UE Pro2 includes an integrated inspection module designed to support fast on-site quality control workflows. Real-time mesh visualization, AI-assisted feature recognition, and live data quality monitoring help streamline the inspection process during scanning.
The software ecosystem supports compatibility with professional inspection and reverse engineering platforms including PolyWorks, Geomagic Control X, Geomagic Design X, EXModel Pro, and SHINING3D Inspect.
