FreeScan UE Pro2 — Wireless Metrology Without Limits

The FreeScan UE Pro2 is SHINING 3D’s next-generation wireless metrology 3D scanner, designed for high-accuracy engineering and portable inspection workflows. Combining wireless operation, ultra-fast scanning performance, and photogrammetry-assisted accuracy, the UE Pro2 is engineered for demanding industrial environments where portability and precision are equally critical.

Built for inspection, reverse engineering, manufacturing, heavy industry, automotive, and large-scale measurement applications, the FreeScan UE Pro2 delivers metrology-grade performance in a lightweight handheld platform.

Portable Metrology Without the Cable Restrictions

The FreeScan UE Pro2 is a professional wireless laser 3D scanner designed for high-accuracy inspection, reverse engineering, and large-scale measurement. It combines metrology-grade accuracy, fast data acquisition, built-in Video Photogrammetry, and portable wireless operation in a lightweight handheld system.

Engineered for automotive, aerospace, heavy industry, energy, manufacturing, transportation, and field inspection, the FreeScan UE Pro2 allows operators to bring professional 3D measurement directly to the part. Large components, installed equipment, vehicles, tooling, and machinery can be captured without transporting them to a dedicated measurement room.

The scanner weighs approximately 950 grams and includes an integrated wireless module for cable-free data transmission. A compact external battery supplies power while the scanner communicates wirelessly with the computer, giving operators greater freedom to move around large or difficult objects.

High-Speed Industrial Measurement

With a maximum scan rate of up to 3,460,000 points per second, the FreeScan UE Pro2 can collect dense surface data quickly. The 50-line laser pattern covers a large area during each pass, helping operators complete full-part scans with fewer movements.

This speed is particularly valuable in production and inspection environments where measurement must fit within an established workflow. Parts can be scanned between manufacturing operations, during incoming inspection, or while investigating a production issue without creating unnecessary delays.

Fast scanning is also useful when measuring large surfaces. Automotive panels, molds, dies, equipment housings, and fabricated structures may contain millions of measurable points. The UE Pro2 captures this geometry efficiently while still allowing the operator to concentrate on complete coverage and stable tracking.

Three Laser Modes for Different Geometry

The FreeScan UE Pro2 uses three laser configurations, allowing the operator to select the best balance of speed, detail, and accessibility for each part.

High-Speed Scan mode projects 50 laser lines across the surface and is designed for rapid capture of medium and large objects. It is ideal for vehicle bodies, molds, castings, sheet-metal parts, heavy machinery, structural components, and other projects where broad surface coverage is the priority.

Fine Scan mode uses seven parallel laser lines to capture smaller details and more complex geometry. This mode is useful for machined features, edges, mounting points, holes, grooves, and other areas that require greater definition.

Single-Line Scan mode is designed for narrow slots, deep pockets, recessed areas, and geometry that may be difficult to capture with a wider laser pattern. The operator can scan the majority of the object in High-Speed mode, switch to Fine Scan for detailed features, and then use the single laser line to reach challenging areas.

Data collected in the different modes can be combined within the same project, providing a complete model without requiring multiple scanning systems.

Metrology-Grade Accuracy

The FreeScan UE Pro2 is engineered specifically for professional metrology applications requiring reliable measurement accuracy and repeatability. The system delivers accuracy up to 0.02 mm and volumetric accuracy up to 0.02 mm + 0.015 mm/m when used with photogrammetry workflows.

The scanner is verified according to VDI/VDE 2634 Part 3 and ISO 10360 standards, supporting traceable industrial inspection and quality control applications. SHINING 3D’s ISO/IEC 17025 accredited accuracy laboratory provides calibration and validation for the system’s metrology performance.

A Look At A Full Dimensional Inspection Workflow With 3D Scanning

Built-In Video Photogrammetry

Large-object scanning typically requires additional preparation to maintain global accuracy. Conventional photogrammetry workflows may involve placing coded targets, capturing a separate set of photographs, and importing that measurement data into the scanning project.

The FreeScan UE Pro2 simplifies this process through built-in Video Photogrammetry technology. VPG captures the spatial relationship between markers during the normal scanning workflow and eliminates the need for coded markers.

By integrating photogrammetry into the handheld scanner, the UE Pro2 improves volumetric accuracy while reducing the equipment and preparation typically required for large-part measurement.

This makes VPG particularly valuable for complete vehicles, large castings, industrial tooling, pipelines, structural assemblies, ship components, and heavy machinery. Operators can maintain global dimensional consistency without introducing a separate photogrammetry camera and independent measurement stage.

Built for Industrial Environments

The FreeScan UE Pro2 is designed for operation across both indoor and outdoor environments, including manufacturing facilities, shipyards, energy infrastructure, heavy equipment maintenance, and field inspection applications.

Its laser-based scanning system provides strong material adaptability for scanning dark, reflective, and metallic surfaces commonly encountered in industrial workflows. The system is intended for applications including:

  • Industrial inspection
  • Reverse engineering
  • Automotive manufacturing
  • Energy and utility infrastructure
  • Heavy machinery maintenance
  • Aerospace and transportation
  • Sheet metal inspection
  • Surface deformation analysis

The scanner’s portability and wireless operation allow operators to move freely around large components and complex workspaces without tether limitations.

Integrated Inspection Workflow

The FreeScan UE Pro2 includes an integrated inspection module designed to support fast on-site quality control workflows. Real-time mesh visualization, AI-assisted feature recognition, and live data quality monitoring help streamline the inspection process during scanning.

The software ecosystem supports compatibility with professional inspection and reverse engineering platforms including PolyWorks, Geomagic Control X, Geomagic Design X, EXModel Pro, and SHINING3D Inspect.
