The FreeScan Combo combines SHINING 3D’s industrial blue laser technology with infrared VCSEL scanning in one compact handheld platform. Designed for professionals who need metrology-grade accuracy in a highly portable form factor, the FreeScan Combo delivers precise measurement capabilities, fast data acquisition, and flexible scanning workflows across a wide range of applications.

Weighing only 620 grams and measuring just 193 × 63 × 53 mm, the scanner is significantly smaller than many traditional industrial laser scanners while maintaining the accuracy and performance required for inspection, reverse engineering, manufacturing, and engineering applications.

Dual Light Source Technology

The FreeScan Combo combines blue laser and infrared VCSEL technology within a single scanner, allowing users to select the most effective scanning mode for each project.

Blue laser scanning provides high-accuracy data acquisition and strong adaptability on challenging surfaces, including dark materials, metallic finishes, and reflective components. The infrared mode offers fast, marker-free scanning for feature-rich objects, reducing setup time and improving workflow efficiency when maximum metrology accuracy is not required.

By integrating both technologies into one device, the FreeScan Combo offers a level of flexibility that traditionally required multiple scanning systems.

Four Scanning Modes for Maximum Flexibility

The FreeScan Combo features four dedicated scanning modes designed to handle a wide range of object sizes and geometries.

The 26-line blue laser mode is optimized for high-speed scanning of larger objects and general-purpose industrial workflows. A 7-line parallel laser mode provides increased point density for capturing finer details and smaller features. For recessed geometry, pockets, and difficult-to-reach areas, the scanner includes a dedicated single-line laser mode that improves access to deep holes and narrow structures. Finally, the infrared VCSEL mode enables rapid marker-free scanning of feature-rich objects and organic shapes.

This combination allows users to transition from large-scale scanning to detailed feature capture without changing equipment.

Certified Metrology Accuracy

The FreeScan Combo is designed for professional measurement and inspection workflows where dimensional accuracy is critical. The scanner delivers an accuracy of up to 0.02 mm and volumetric accuracy of 0.02 mm + 0.033 mm/m, making it suitable for quality control, reverse engineering, manufacturing verification, and engineering analysis.

Its performance has been verified according to VDI/VDE 2634 Part 3 and ISO 10360 standards, with calibration and testing performed in an ISO/IEC 17025 accredited laboratory. This provides users with confidence that scan data can be used for demanding industrial applications where measurement reliability is essential.

Fast Scanning Performance

Speed is one of the FreeScan Combo’s strongest advantages. The scanner is capable of capturing up to 3,600,000 points per second while maintaining metrology-grade accuracy. Its large field of view allows operators to digitize larger surfaces efficiently while minimizing the number of passes required to complete a scan.

This combination of speed and accuracy helps reduce project times while still generating dense, high-quality datasets suitable for inspection and reverse engineering workflows.

For advanced inspection and reverse engineering workflows, scan data can also be exported into leading third-party software packages including Geomagic Control X, Geomagic Design X, PolyWorks, EXModel, and other professional engineering platforms.
